Improving Greek-American relations

In 2007, Peter Palivos was honored by the Jewish Federation and the Jewish United Fund. Palivos worked with Chicago Mayor Harrold Washington to host a reception for former Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsiotakis.

Throughout the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton administrations, he worked with former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton to improve Greek-American relations. In 1992, he was appointed by former United States Senators Carol Moseley Braun and Paul Simon to serve on the United States Judicial Commission in the Northern District of Illinois, where he investigated, screened, and recommended candidates for the federal judicial bench, as well as US marshals and US attorneys.

In 1994, he began working with Illinois Speaker Michael J. Madigan and The Illinois Trial Lawyer Association to protect consumer rights in the state. That same year, he became the first attorney in the United Hellenic Voters of America's history to receive their Award for Contributions in the Field of Law. He participated in helping the restoration of the Illinois Governor's mansion.

In 1996, he worked to secure a Certificate of Need for the only Greek-American nursing home in the Midwest, responsible for serving over 200 poor and needy seniors. In 1997, he spearheaded a fund-raising drive for the Pan-Arcadian Hospital's kidney dialysis program.

He also joined the Illinois Treasurer's Advisory Board initiating innovative financial programs, for which he received the state's Community Service Award. In 2000, he participated in the Lieutenant Governor's Advisory Board, addressing education and employment issues. That year, he also received the Gortynian Society's Distinguished Award of Excellence for accomplishments in the field of law.
